Plastering and Plasterboarding

Plastering and Plasterboarding in Brynmawr and across Gwent

Plastering is where George started, fifteen years before the rendering side took over, and we still take it on. Ceiling skims, boarding out an extension, dry lining a cold wall, patching after the sparky has been through, or a full house after a refurbishment.

It is a trade where the difference between good and bad only shows up later, when the light comes across the wall in the afternoon and every ripple is visible. We take the time to get it flat.

Pricing

What You'll Pay - No Hidden Costs

Small jobs and big jobs price differently, and so do jobs where the existing plaster has to come off first. A single ceiling is a day. A boarded and skimmed extension is a week.

Free site survey, no call-out charge, and a written price for the whole job before anything starts.

We come and look before we quote. The visit is free and there is no call-out charge. You get a written price that says what is included, and if we think you would be better off overboarding than hacking a ceiling down, we will say so, because it is usually cheaper and less mess for you.

How The Job Runs

What to Expect

  1. Come and lookWe see the room, check what is behind the existing surface and work out whether it is a skim, an overboard or a strip out.
  2. Protect the roomFloors covered, doorways sheeted. Plastering is wet and dusty work and the difference is in how much of it ends up on your carpet.
  3. Board or preparePlasterboard fixed and taped, or the existing surface cleaned down, sealed and beaded where it needs it.
  4. SkimTwo coats, trowelled up as it goes off. This is the part that decides how the wall looks in low light for the next twenty years.
  5. Clean upWaste out, floors up, room swept. We leave it ready for you to decorate.

Common Questions

FAQ - Plastering and Plasterboarding

Not always. If it is sound and keyed, a skim straight over it is quicker, cheaper and far less mess. If it is blown and drumming when you tap it, it has to come off, because anything we put on top will come off with it.

Give it a good few days to dry out fully, longer in winter or in a room without much ventilation. Fresh plaster goes from dark brown to a light even pink when it is ready. Painting it too early traps the moisture.

Yes. Boarding, taping and skimming a new extension or loft conversion is regular work for us, including insulated board on the cold walls where it is wanted.

We do. A single ceiling or a patched wall after a leak is worth a phone call. Not every job has to be a whole house.
